John Kotter,
Professor of Leadership at Harvard Business School
states that "Most US corporations are over managed and
under led. Successful corporations don’t wait for
leaders to come along, they actively seek out people
with leadership potential and develop them.”
Great leaders do not necessarily start off
with the basic skills needed to make them great. Companies
that consistently, uniformly and regularly offer classes
in leadership for up-and-coming employees find that
promotion decisions are a lot easier because the training
has taken place and people are ready to take on added
responsibility.
The statistics, however, show that most
organizations have a difficult time finding the necessary
talent for their organization. Eighty-two percent of HR
leaders responding to a survey conducted by Development
Dimensions International found that their organizations
were having a hard time finding qualified leaders, which
leads to the questions: what does your current leadership
training initiative look like, and is it working for your
company?”
The
demands on your leaders continue to increase. The bar is
going up … what are your plans to deal with these
challenges?
